Why not to use a metal shed in the north

Would using Styrofoam insulation sheets on the inside of the roof help?

WOW that is a lot of wet there. Can you cut windows in the shed. Ones you can open and close as needed would perhaps help dry it out. I would also be looking at the foam for the ceiling to keep the wet off of it.
BUT the wet would still be in the structure just not causing condensation on the roof.
I would try and put windows on the south side to let the sun in to help dry it out.

I made my windows out of lexan and wood with primer and paint to protect the wood. It was simple enough to make them.

Hang in there spring is just around the corner.
It may still be a workable coop with some tweeks. Insulation and more venting options would be where I would start.
I know you already have vents but that much moisture suggests more is needed.

It looks like the shed is in good shape just needs some windows and insulation.

That is why i don't recommend these there is now way you can cut 15 feet of openings is the sides of these, without compromising the integrity of the strength of it.These don't have any internal bracing. The whole shed works together as a whole.

Do you have electric directly to the structure? If you do how about an outdoor ventilation fan like this?

I have a metal roof on my coop with 20 birds. I am looking at one of these for my coop for the summer since I worry about to much heat in mine.

WOW that is a lot of wet there.Yes it went from 18 degrees to 37 degree
Can you cut windows in the shed.Yes but then there wouldn't strength to it.
Ones you can open and close as needed would perhaps help dry it out.Nothing else is wet

BUT the wet would still be in the structure just not causing condensation on the roof. That is why i did't put the foam on the roof then covered with wood.I didn't want the condensation to get in the wood the cause mold or mildew.
I would try and put windows on the south side to let the sun in to help dry it out.The doors are on the south side nowhere to put windows

It looks like the shed is in good shape just needs some windows and insulation.Yes it is a brand new shed
THIS IS WHY I POSTED THIS>SO WHEN PEOPLE WANT TO BUY A PRE_FAB SHED THIS IS WHAT YOU"RE GOING TO DEAL WITH.
This was the only time i've seen it do that.

As you can see in the pic there is no internal framing other than that bar in the middle. And no the heat lamp is not in there, never got used in there.

Covered styrofoam on the 'ceiling' would help-kinda, but it wouldn't solve the real problem which is too much moisture...an exhaust fan would be awesome.

Horizontal nipple waterer and scooping the poop everyday would too.

I understand your frustration and the warning you are trying to convey to folks before they end up in your situation.

I can see why it got so moist on the roof with that kind of temp change. Condensation is a bugger to deal with. It has been really humid here this winter as well.

I am looking forward to what your plans are for the spring change of coop. It is after all only a couple months away.

Hang in there.

Thanks, come spring i'm going to build a coop out of wood that you can easily add widows and add proper ventilation.
Shed $300
Structure to support the shed $100
Styrofoam $30
Luan $78
$508
For $508 you can build something something better.
But i can say after i wiped all the condensation off the ceiling it is sparkly clean!

If you live in an area that is not windy you might get away with cutting that many windows in it.My house is in the circle in the middle on 2.5 acres i have 0 wind protection.

Facing west

Facing north, unfortunately the barn isn't usable

Facing east

With nearly 900 commercial wind turbines dotting Michigan, especially in the Thumb where the wind is strongest and most consistent, a scenic drive can turn into a jaw-dropping experience. The Thumb alone has 618 wind turbines already operating or scheduled to go into service by next year.
