I have six nest boxes for 25 birds. Why do they want to lay in the same box as each other. I have seen 2 birds in one box. One is trying to lay and the other is standing over her. They are 3 each one on top of the other. I made them myself similar in design as the ones for sale. How can I get them to select another unoccupied nest box?
I wouldn't mind but they screech like there is no tomorrow and there won't be if they keep this up! I have this one Dominique and I just want to grab her and take her out back and lop her head off!

Which makes me wonder if there is a place that sells good head chopping axes. I think it would be great if someone sold some that were guaranteed to take it off in one swipe! Imagine a nighttime infomercial. "Buy now and get the second one free". "This baby can take off two at a time." "Tired of that charging rooster, we've got the solution". "No stump necessary just walk up to him like Freddy Crugger and swish, no more nasty roo". "Buy now and we'll send you a free stewing pot."
"Tired of egg eating hens? "Well that's no problem with our golf club lopper shaped model". "What a great way to practice your swing"! "Just don't forget to holler "fore!".

!!!

Did you forget to buy coffee and wake up unable to make any?

Mine all fight over the boxes, too- I decided if I'm not watching, it doesn't affect me.

Walk away!!!!

Someone hasn't been oiling his axe!!!

I'd have than hanging on the coop to keep them all in line.

I have 6 boxes, but they're 22x16x16 and the girls have lots of room to sit atop one another if it comes to that. I do have a couplt of favorite boxes, but they share pretty well.

I definitely gotta get me one of those. I'll hook it on my belt. Course I don't think they'll let me into church with it on. I could keep it next to the bed and the next time my wife complains about my long toe nails I could fix them in a hurry.

Too funny!!! I'm loving your sense of humor, and could hear those infomercials loud and clear!

Worse part is I was thinking, ya know, that's a great idea!

My boxes are the factory built metal ones, I'm thinking 12x12. I do NOT have small chickens, and yet there's times I see two white rocks in the same nest!! I have 10 nest boxes, and two of the milk crates underneath those in case a chicken is too large for the nests. Most days I find one egg in the milk crate, and the rest in about 4 nests. It seems if one nests is good enough for a certain hen, then they all want to use it. There was 9 empty nests not counting the milk crate ones this morning, and yet a NHR was standing on the floor and screaming for the WR to hurry up so she could get in that nest!
