We tried to grow fodder in plastic tubs in our house for our ducks and geese. We used feed barley bought at a local feed store. They sprouted very well. But our ducks and geese wouldn't eat them. We've tried to feed them at various growth length, from just sprouted to several days old. They were still not interested. The funny thing was that during the summer, when I seeded some barley in a garden bed and then fed them the sprouts, they loved it. So to experiment, I tried putting a layer of soil in the tub and sprouted barley on top of that. They seemed to be more interested. At least one of the geese ate it. Not sure how much the ducks actually ate it. Could it be that fodder grown in plastic tubs smell funny to the animals? Has anyone else run into this?
