I see on some post where, for whatever reason, people have eggs they can't or won't eat so they feed them back to their chickens. Now I have no problem with that, although I never do unless the egg is cracked when I collect it, but what I can't understand is why scramble them first? I just smack them on the floor of the coop or in the run and let the birds fight for them. Why make more work for yourself? BTW, never had problems with egg eaters either--I'm sure the egg is in such a state that their pea sized brains can't make the connection between it and a whole one.

You're right of course. Making that connection requires a level of cognition that chickens aren't capeable of.

I do that too. It's fun to watch. The only time I scramble them is if the eggs are already in the house or I feel like cooking for them.

I don't even scramble eggs for my dogs and cats - they get the ones I drop in the house.

I dropped one in the yard last week and only ONE chicken saw it as it fell into the inside of a concrete block turned on its side. She went after it. Oh, well. More protein for her.

Guess I don't want to take the chance one will make the connection. It may be a very small chance, but I'd much rather cook them up to make them as unrecognizable as possible. Call me weird.

Ummmm, cuz we all like to raise our chickens as we see fit?

I certainly don't, for one, consider my chickens exceedingly stupid. Especially not my gamefowl. But, I don't feed eggs raw anyway. It is risky, not because of egg eating, but because what they could carry after eating them.

Oh, yea! I never use a pan when cooking for the chickens; I'm lazy!
