Why show your bird(s)?

That is so great. I have to admit. When I go to the county fair the first place I go is to the area with all the animals. Usually it's the same people that exhibit there animals. I was thinking of putting my turkeys in but I just feel so bad seeing all the animals in the cages. I don't think my tom would like that. I had a problem keeping him in a pen...... lol. I guess that's out.

I've heard many wash there chickens and practice keeping them in cages and handling the animal as well. I would imagine the animal has a lot of things to get use too. I bet the shows are pretty cool considering there are so many different breeds and many you never hear about let alone see.

I think the best answer is knowing there are other crazies out there....... LOL!

I show my birds mostly to get a trained exeprt's opinion on what I need to do to better my line of breed I choose to show. And like doctors, you need more then one opinion. I have several mentors who are APA judges. Those guys are way more knowledgeable then I. And it is addicting.

That pretty much sums it up.

And I like to hear the judges opinion.

I don't show birds, but I have attended a number of shows. pictures are great, but you really don't appreciate how beautiful a quality chicken can be until you see them in person. It is a great place to meet breeders and when I have brought non-chicken friends and family, they always leave excited about chickens in a way that me babbling about my birds could never inspire. Poultry shows in general can be PR between chickens and the public counters the bad press and misinformation.
