Why Some and Not Others?

I checked over a chick that was looking a bit unhappy today and she was TEEMING with bugs. I rushed and gave ger a bath in Poultry Protector, blew her dry and dusted her with Sevin. Then I checked over the other chicks and none. I looked closely and really searched several spots and the others may have one or two, but not like the other one..

What's the deal with that? I have also noticed some of my chickens are the same way. One will have visible fleas/ whhatever and others....nothing.

Oh, don'tcha hate it when that happens? I've had chickens for four years now, and I had an outbreak of lice once. The crappy thing is that you're going to have to clean out ALL of the bedding and totally gut your coop, and dust each and every bird two times with Seven Dust.

I think there are other treatments for parasites, but they are more expensive......

I do think that wild birds are often the culprits......They will spread the little creepy crawlies to your entire flock.

Some birds are at higher risk for bugs- broodies and roos specifically- because they take poor care of themselves and don't groom as well or as often as they should. Unfortunately, as chicmom said you are going to need to treat all the birds and the coop, and then you are going to need to do it all again in 7-10 days. Once one bird has bugs, they all have bugs. You just haven't seen them.

Sorry for your increased work load. Bugs are a nuisance.

Wasn't in my coop. It was a 6 week old chick n a dog crate. The other chicks don't have bugs and the bedding is cleaned 2x a week.
