Why use a post driver anyway?

Something else to consider... I was using a bare sledge to drive ground rods one day, and these suckers were 8' tall.. I was up in the bed of the truck, pounding away, and I missed...sledge slammed into the tailgate, making a nice dent.

Meh, who cares.. Truck's old anyhow.

Well, as I got more and more tired, I got more and more sloppy. I took a good hard swing at one, totally missed, and smacked myself in the shin just above the ankle with an 8# sledge.

That hurt.

Bad.

Really bad.

Can't do that with a post driver, and trust me...that's reason enough to own one.

Because standing on a step ladder holding a post with one hand while swinging a 10 pound sledge with the other which happens to have an inflamed arthritic elbow is no fun.

If its an air driven unit and it runs, $100 is a steel

If its a manual unit $100 is overpriced.

I got my dad's old driver. Along with driving t-posts, I like to use it to drive my wooden stakes around the tomato cages. Sure makes the wood stakes last longer.

Been there, done that! How bout hitting yourself in the wrist while holding the 8 foot ground rod for an electric fence with one hand and trying to pound it in with a sledge?

Think I will put it in horizontally, since they say you can do that. All I have to do is dig a shallow trench, I think.

These stories are hilarious! Probably a dumb question but do you have a Lowe's or Home Depot? It should be much cheaper there.
