Why was this a good idea?

My older daughter is three. She's changing and showing more independence and maturity every day. Usually she loves animals, except other people's dogs (ours she loves!). She likes watching birds outside and will point out a lot of different animals to us. That's why I was so shocked at her reaction. But yes, it may be that she was just surprised to see a bird where she's never seen one before.
