Some people do not place any value on a chicken other than its monetary value. Probably some punk kid that has no feeling for the value of life. I have known people like this in the past, don't care to know them any more. Hopefully some day that kid will have something taken from him and they will realize and remember what they did, and they will feel some guilt from it, but probably not.

Thanks to all of you for understanding. I doubt they'll find who did this, unless there are other complaints or something. I didn't see the driver and couldn't give a very good description of the car or license plate, so they don't have much to go on. But I had to do something, so I reported it.

Again, thanks for understanding. Not many people know how we feel about our girls...I mean, they're just chickens right? WRONG. I've raised them from a day old...every one of them has a name and a personality. I walk outside and sit with them and talk to them. They're as much of a pet to me as dogs or cats.

I am appalled at the outright cruelty and violence that our society tolerates....this is but one example. Not too long ago, the news reported a car driving by a house and shooting randomly into it. An innocent little girl was killed while sleeping in her bed from one of those bullets. I doubt the perpetrator even thought about the consequences when he did it....for fun.

It won't bring back your baby, but have you considered posting a large sign (visible from the street) showing a picture of jail bars or cell and below it saying:

Discharging a weapon into personal property is a FELONY, punishable by up to ____ years in prison.
COMMIT THE CRIME.....PREPARE TO DO THE TIME!

Nothing wrong with a little bluff, especially if it protects your family and flock from injury or death.

Yeah. I think it's in everybody's best interest these days to have a couple of wildlife cams out. Actually, these days you never can tell when you'll get your photo taken!

I'm so sorry you are suffering this, there are druggies and idiots everywhere. You know, I think this warrants everything you have done and at least one more thing- a cam directed where you think the car was. You can set it up indoors looking through a window. Also, even though you do not have many neighbors, let each one of them know, and they may have seen the car or know the occupants. At any rate, they will want to protect themselves and by banding together you will catch these morons.

I agree about the value of the wildlife cams...I don't have any yet, but we do have a gate alarm and a security camera at the front gate. Earlier this week someone ran over our front fence and drove off. If we had a wildlife cam we might have gotten some evidence that would lead to finding the person. I am planning on getting a few wildlife cams as soon as possible.
