Hello everyone!
I thought that I would start a post on reasons that you got your chickens. Heres mine: I got my chickens for entertainment, eggs, and pets.

I got chickenses because my neighbor had them. I loved to see them running all over. I loved to hear them. My son wanted his own, so I decided to learn what I could, and then get some. SO, I get lovely eggs now, lovely chickens to listen to, and lovely chickens to entertain me. LOL. AND, also, roosters to send to freezer camp for Sunday night dinners.

I am becoming more and more concerned with the state of our food supply in the US. Now that I am retired, I decided to do more gardening, canning, dehydrating, etc. I use OP seeds that I save and trade with others.
I also thought that having my own eggs and meat would be useful. I am considering raising rabbits as well.

That's why I got the chickens. Of course, now they are here, I just enjoy watching and working with them.

All of those are really great reasons. I also really hated buying eggs from factory farms even if they were "free range" and organic......my eggs now are 100% better tasting

Eggs are my favorite food! My friend got chickens and started giving me eggs from them once in a while when she had extra. I got hooked! When her barn burned down and she had to start from scratch I went through withdrawal.

So I decided I was going to get my own chickens. Actually, I have always wanted to have some but Hubs always vetoed the idea. This time he gave in. They are so cute and so much fun. I love their little fuzzy butts. And now I have fresh eggs in some form everyday.

Hurray for lipitor!

My top reasons.

1. Eggs that I know are fresh and hormone free.
2. Help teach my "until now" city kids about life and responsibility.
3. Start to participate in the food chain.
4. Transitioning to local food as much as possible.
5. There really are great to watch.

I've got a thing for birds. I like their faces. I like their feathers. I like the way they act and the way they survive and adapt.

an obsession
an addiction
and not just that...

It's something I scream at people with and annoy them with!

But really, they're just awesome. And "awesome" doesn't even begin to describe how awesome they are. I can ramble about this forever...
