Why you shouldn't put your chickens near your face.

I had my little buff cochin sitting on me the other day and she was being all cute so I smiled and Bam! nailed me right in the gum. My teeth must have caught her eye. In fact, others get that look in their eye when I smile, I really have to watch myself around them!

this happened to me last year and i almost had to have surgery because the pressure that the chicken pecks with causes major swelling to the back of the eyeball.

the good news is that the eyeball is one of the fastest healing parts of our bodies.

be careful, dang it!

I wish you a very speedy recovery! Hopefully you won't need surgery.

I have a BR that always jumps in my lap and stares at my face. I was always worried she'd peck me in the eye so whenever I go out to sit with the girls for awhile I put on my safety glasses that I always wear for weedwacking.

My DH always laughs at me, but I'll show him your story! I've got pecked a couple of times in the head and it's no fun. They're getting stronger every week! Yesterday one of them got me in the butt and I jumped 3 feet!

Ouch! We keep our chickens off our shoulders for just that reason. They started looking a bit too interested in my eyeballs as babies and so it's no higher than the lap for them.

Maybe we should all wear chicken protective swim goggles. Because that wouldn't make things look even weirder out at our overdone coops, would it?

Ouch! One time I had one of our 2 week old chicks, Oreo, sitting on my shoulder and she pecked my eye ball!

It stung a little but wasn't too bad. I guess she wanted to eat my eye lashes!

Sorry about your eye! I guard my eyes--from everything! I am legally blind in one eye and I fear something will happen to my good/better eye... This is one reason, I am so guarded with my 2yr old grandson in the coop.. He's so close to the same 'level' as they are.....
