Why?

I know that I won't get rich off them but I can make more from a hen than I can a male. The sooner I can let go of the unwanted males, the less I have to spend on feeding them

Well I already know that 90% of the ones I hatch will be roos that is is how it has been for me every time I hatch out ringneck eggs.

For ringneck pheasants you actually make more because all the hunting clubs want roos some will take hens but you get half of what a roo will pay.

I was just getting ready to, I just took one pic of it. It is more gray than blue, but very pretty. Ignore the chickens (shhh, don't tell

Tony, Have to agree with you there. I work 6 days a week to feed my birds. People always say "it must be nice having all that extra money from your birds" I just smile. last year I made $65 off of my birds. It cost me $30 or more a week for feed. Im lucky on the pen building part though. My dad owns a logging company and a saw mill, so all of my lumber is free, I went to an estate auction two years ago and bought 8 full rolls of wire for $35.

Amen Tony. Alot of people dont realise just how much food alone is. Down here everyone wants males for eye candy or pairs so I guess its where you live.

Have to also agree with Tony. Out of curiosity last year I kept track of how much we spent on feed and supplies - pens were already built so no cost there. I get my feed custom ground at a mill close to us so it's cheaper than bagged feed (and has what I want in it). I also kept track of how much we brought in when selling birds minus the gas to get to the sale. Guess what? We broke even or may have made $50-100. I just look at it as a hobby that helps pay for itself.
