We had to euthanize our button hen yesterday due to progressive ovarian cancer and our poor little male is very distressed by her loss. We are working to find him a companion as quick as possible but so far have had no luck. While we continue to search we are looking for temporary solutions.
I’m wondering if a surrogate (perhaps a a felted quail doll) and a mirror may help him for a short time.
I’m also wondering if anyone knows a breeder in the Portland Oregon area that might have an older female that needs a retirement home? Our male is 4 years old.
Thanks for any help and thoughts!

A mirror or felted doll might help. Too bad I'm not closer to you. I'm in CA and moving to OR next year, but I'll be in southern OR.

You might check your local craigslist, and if you don't see any, post a wanted ad. Someone might respond.

Oh bless him. And sorry for your loss. I am a felter but don't live in the US and use dog/cat hair instead of wool. I hope you find hims some company soon.

Where are they housed? Maybe move them into a room where people are always around. I keep my boys by my bed.

We did post on Craigslist so fingers crossed! Oregon is lovely! We hope your move goes smoothly!

Thank you! Luckily he lives in my partners home office so he’s got lots of of non-quail company
