Wierd Egg

Hello everyone! I have a year old quail who layed a strange egg yesterday, very different from normal. Normally the egg is white with brown speckles, but this egg was a coffee color with many small speckles. It’s the first time I’ve seen an egg like this. I’m just curious why this may be the case.

My quails lay so many different patterns! Most are like your first picture, some are like your second picture, and some of the eggs I get even have a ring of blue spots around them! I love collecting eggs and seeing what I got each day.

This is the wierd egg.

I have had eggs just like it. I too thought it was weird, but I was reassured by other BYC members that it's normal. We ended up eating it, and it was absolutely fine. The color is just a bit different on the shell.

Yeah, that's totally fine. It just means the color was applied a bit differently than usual.
