wierd scab

I got a load of chicks the other day, and this evening i noticed one brown scab on three of the same types of chicks all in the same place, on their butt, below their vent. their vents are clean. i got six different types of chicks, but the "scab" is happening on three of four. any ideas?

It's possibly a navel scab from when they hatched. Without pics it's hard to answer. Are they acting like the others?

they act just fine, but the others are picking at the scabs.

separate those who are being picked on until they heal. Picking can get ugly really quickly. You can divide the brooder with wire or cardboard to keep them separate. Just make sure each has access to food, water, and warmth.
