We have a PS2 that is much loved, but then went to the Xbox360 and its even MORE loved. Summer isn't nearly as bad about game playing as wintertime, but from what I see on TV, I think maybe playing the games might not be so bad. I don't agree with some of them, and I have him trained to turn the sound off if its more rough . . .its funny, he is playing away silently. Ha. We borrowed a gamecube and he had a lot of fun with it too . . .its about control; you let them go and they will. The old expression "give them an inch . . ." couldn't be truer when it comes to game systems. WII sounds like fun, my DD got her D one for Xmas last year at DG for $40 and it has 7 built in games, and they have had a blast with it. I have threatened to take them away during the week, but we usually get all homework done and then he can play until 7 and then its time for bath and bed. So far so good, and he is 9.
