When dealing with wildlife or for that matter creatures that have no choices about their lives, you have to consider their best interests, not your wants and desires.

Yes it is great fun to have a duckling in your room.
But the fact of the matter is, what you have is a wild Federally Protected Migratory Bird and as such, it is not fair to the duck (nor legal for you) to keep it. It is selfish.

Sometimes the best things are the hardest and I guarantee you that a Wildlife Rehabber will make sure the duckling has a way better life than what you can give it. Not because you don't care, but becasue it is the way of nature and the way it should be.

I know a few Federally Licensed Wildlife Rehabbers and I will point them to this thread and I hope one will be able to help you with the duckling.

Your screen name says you are a farm animal lover. Prove it. This is not a farm animal you have in your possession.

First of all we are raising it until it is old enough to be set free, and we are going to do that, ALSO we have a BIG HUGE pond in our backyard!!!!!!!! Also we have raised them before OK?? Im sorry i upset you, Also i didn't mean to be mean, im just frustrated cuz noone will answer my darn question

I feel some on here jumped your case with no cause. You wanted the duckling to be safe. I understand why you wanted to keep it in your room. I would not have kept it there but that is a sleep matter for me. From my understandings this was a wild mallard. Yes this is a wild bird & prolly best in a rehabilitaion center but personally I would have tried to save it myself. Sounds like you have a wonderful place for ducks & I think you done the best you knew how to do so dont let the others get you down. also You cant keep a wild mallard but you can buy them. Dont make much sense to me. I just got the larger mallards bu tI couldhave bought wild mallards.

Our happiness is not important.
The thing is to do what's right for the duck and you did! Great job!

Our main concern is the legalities.

You can buy domestic mallards and rouens, but not wild mallards.
I see you are new and I welcome you, but please realize many of us who posted in this thread are very experienced in wildlife rescue and the laws.
