Wild Hogs??

Whatever you do be extremely careful. Those things are vicious. Get a good agile hunting dog if you can. Pitbulls are used for hog hunting due to their tenacity, and they keep the hunters safer by keeping the hog distracted. Killing them is all you can do. Most of the country is open season on feral hog populations because they are getting out of control. Big gun! Big BIG gun, and stay out of an injured hogs way. They are man killers given the opportunity. I'd be looking up info online and finding out if it is open season for sure in your county. Good luck! I hate those things, they are very destructive!

Bigger than a shotgun for sure .There are people who "live" to hunt wild hog an ad in the paper and you would probably have have traffic control!

Hog hunting is real popular down here along the Mississippi River. They are considered pests and can be hunted year-round. A 30.06 or .270 will be plenty of firepower. I wouldn't use a shotgun because you have to get too close to them. Try to pick out the leader (like they used to do in buffalo hunting). Kill it and the rest may get confused. They aren't going to stand there like in the movies, but any edge you can get will help. They are very smart. Escaped domesticated pigs thrive in the wild and within just a couple of generations they will look just like them. I keep American Pit Bull Terriers and have put them on hogs, but Curs make the best true hog dogs due to their supreme hunting ability. Pit Bulls are aggressive, but contrary to popular belief they are not mean. They are definitely dog aggressive Curs have that mean streak. Mixing the two has produced a dog with the Cur's hunting ability and disposition and the Pit Bull's heart and never quit attitude. It also gives you a dog that works well with other dogs (something the Pit Bull isn't known for), because you will need more than one or two dogs.

Ok thanks everyone for the advice! I really appreciate it . We have put out corn feed and will wait to see if they start eating it then....we shall have a good supply of meat.

I did check, we have year round hog season. Figures I would have hogs instead of deer here...
