Wild neighborhood tom cat is about to lose his 9th life!

If you are in an area where you can legally shoot, then I would go to a gunshop and ask for some 38special birdshot. It won't be as noisy as 357 ammo and will take down a cat at 15-20 ft without going completely thru a household wall....It will still break windows (if you hit them), make some noise and you will have to watch your backstop but any stray pellets will only travel a few hundred feet, versus almost a mile for your 357 slugs...

No worries about that.. I wont be doing the shooting..my husband who is in sniper competitions will get the job done

He is VERY accurate. Wanted to make sure that a cat could kill a full grown chicken before I take the needed steps. Thanks everyone

You know, I'm not a hunter... My dad and I hunted when I was young but he and I finally both agreed we ain't hungry enough to keep up the business... LOL Well, so I obviously ain't into killing but without animal control, who by the way, do the killing for you, you often have just two choices... Kill the darn thing or lose your chickens.

A gun shot is by far the best and most humane way to kill a cat. It makes my skin crawl when I hear of people drowning them. That seems cruel but I have a phobia of drowning so that could be why I feel this way.

My suggestion is to shoot it and if you can't do it, then I'd take it to an area where there are 10000 acres of woods and set it free... That way it won't disturb anyone else. I will say this though, a tom cat will find it's way back if there is any way possible to do it. Also, a few years back, I was listening to one of those "save the planet" shows and they were going on and on about how many birds and native wildlife cats kill. They were basically saying... KILL THE STRAY CAT! But of course doing it in a hug a tree kind of way. LOL

Like sharks, there are a lot more cats that see you than you see them.

I had the trap set for possums and caught a black longhaired cat one day. He wasn't happy, and told me about it, and I said "well, I have to handle this trap a bit to let you out" and he calmed down and I let him out lol. I haven't seen him since.

Cats will kill for food and just for fun! You would be amazed at how many birds and lizards ect. they get, of course they do get mice and rats. I would shoot it but my dogs ( who get along with the chickens) would beat me to killing the cat.

try a pellet gun. sort of quiet but will get the job done. 1000-1200 fps is powerfull enough for most predators. gamo whisper series is a very powerfull and quiet gun.

My SIL lost a BO to a neighborhood cat. I know we have raccoon that live under the neighbors barn. So we will have a .22 rifle loaded an waiting.
