Wild Waterfowl Incubation (9 hatched!) + Lots of great info!

I just had a 100% hatch rate with 2 mandarin and 2 ringed teal eggs!
So the going total of babies right now is:
2 wood ducks
5 ringed teals
2 mandarins

Also, both my mandarin hen and ringed teal hen are on nests about to hatch. I think I will let them hatch out and raise the babies, just to see how they do. Oh, and I have 3 wood duck eggs in the bator.

Okay okay I'm done.....here are some pics!

Haha I know....I like their little spots. And I would have never thought, but it looks like I'm going to end up with more ringed teal than anything else!

I love this thread! Keep posting pics of their progress and them growing up! Also let us know how your experiences go letting the hens brood their own young. BBB ought to have oodles of insight into the differences in artificial brooding and naturaly letting it happen! Hint! I love seeing the pics of the babies, keep em coming! I had a mandarin lay 10 eggs and none of them were fertile, but she looks like she is going to lay again. Her and the drake get it on a lot and she is going in and out of the nest box a few times a day... Is she going to double clutch? I would say yes, but I'm brand new at this...

The artifical brooding is always great, and best on the ducklings enviormentally speaking, you just have to be VERY certain all the death traps are covered cause they will find them, also them walking threw larger wire mesh and being killed by house cats to coyotes can be a problem. Just cover all your bases and watch the drakes and they will do great
