Chirping
Last year the smoke was heavy in the air. This year looks like it will be the same. This year we have a small flock of chickens. Any suggestions of how to protect their lungs. Thank you.

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do. Keep an eye on the conditions, have a plan for evacuation, consider if there is a place you can house the birds in your home/basement/garage if needed. We were in close proximity to a 14,000 acre fire last summer and there were days when we wouldn't go outdoors due to smoke and days when I brought the dogs to work with me to avoid the smoke for awhile. I was quite concerned about my chickens and ducks, all the local birds had left the area, it was bad. My flock was surprisingly resilient and never showed notable signs of distress.
You can also start asking people you know if your chickens could stay there temporarily if needed
