Am I being silly if I'm not taking photos in RAW and processing them on a program like lightroom after?? Seems like a long process to take a photo but everywhere I go people seem to be telling me to take photos in RAW.

I definitely will be giving it a go tomorrow because some of the examples I've seen look incredible in comparison to their JPEG counterparts! This is my standard workflow. You can do a lot more with RAW images than you can with jpeg compression.
Having said that, if you're really just a hobbyist and happy with the kinds of photos you're getting from your gear today using jpeg, No. Don't shoot in raw. Don't add more work than you want to take on. If you decide at some point that just shooting jpeg and the limited choices for edits and postprocessing that provides aren't enough, you know your next step.

I'm looking at RawTherapee as it's a free program, just trying to learn how to use it now whilst I watch Aliens (Alien 2)![]()
Not sure what kind of gear you're using but most DSLR and a lot of phones will save in RAW+JPEG format so you can compare both. It's a nice way to transition between them too over time.Annoyingly took a few pictures today as some birds were close to the house, hope they'll come back tomorrow lol! Will checkdarkroomdarktable out, thank you.
Yes, thankfully my camera's got this function! I am using a Panasonic Lumix FZ82. Can I ask what do you use?Not sure what kind of gear you're using but most DSLR and a lot of phones will save in RAW+JPEG format so you can compare both. It's a nice way to transition between them too over time.
I shoot Nikon. I'm transitioning from a D7000 to a D610 at the moment. The 7k is my primary shooter because I need to buy new glass for the 610 and it's not cheapYes, thankfully my camera's got this function! I am using a Panasonic Lumix FZ82. Can I ask what do you use?
