Close enough to get my parents yelling, but not close enough to get killed. :p

Not sure if you can tell from the photo, but that’s a baby rattlesnake. My dad killed it right after I took the shot so that’s his funeral pic.
Oh my.

Cherry, NOTHING is worth that risk. A baby still packs enough venom to mess you up. Please please please don't risk it like that in the future.

Sorry, enough parent mode. I'm sure yours already lit you up enough.

That’s for sure. I used a telescoping lense and have no other reason to believe that it would get to me. Rattlesnakes can lunge roughly two thirds of their body length and I was more than a safe distance away. But yes, my parents were worried. And even more worried that it was gonna escape.
THAT'S HORRIBLE :(
We get tons, and I mean TONS of rattlesnakes around here. Not sure where you live, but where I live, most, if not all of my neighbors have livestock. It’s a responsible thing to do as rattlesnakes can cause a lot of issues among agricultural neighborhoods and neighborhoods in general. Saves the trouble for others.

Well- I understand that. I wouldn't want my animals to have any accidents with them.

Sorry for sounding like an idiot when I didn't mean to.

It's just that-- people needlessly killing animals just because they fear them really, REALLY ticks me off. I could go into a long rant about why rattlers deserve our respect and admiration, not our fear and hate, but I won't. Sorry again.

Pm me. I would love to know why you think that way.

@mdees88 if you don’t mind me asking, which camera (that you’ve used) do you like the most?
The only cameras I've ever used were a Canon rebel T7i, an 80D, an R5, and an R7. My favorite is the R5 but that should be no surprise as it is a full frame mirrorless camera with tons of great features but it also costs several thousand dollars.

As far as the two "normal price" cameras. The T7i and 80D are very similar in performance but the 80D has weather sealing, a better button layout, the ability to adjust microfocus, and is more configurable. It can be had for ~$450 used and is one I definitely would recommend. Though I do feel Nikon is a little better value for your money.

The R7 just released and you get a lot of good features and I think it is the best aps-c camera at its price point but it's still very expensive costing $1500.

Often times upgrading the lens is what gives you better "image quality" for your money.

I really like your lower angle rattle snake image. The owls are cool too. Been wanting to shoot an owl but I never have.

What camera are you currently using?
