dont think its normal for a baby fawn to be laying in the road deerman..But honestly..its just MY opinion..and i'm entitled to it. As you are too yours. Peace, Wendy

To a fawn a road is no different than anwhere else...the road is not some dangerous place to be avoided by a fawn...or even many adult deer. I don't think it is "abnormal" per se for a fawn to be in the road...not safe of course...but they don't know any better. I would not see the simple fact that they are there to be a sign that they are orphaned. If fawns realize that they have been approached by something, they WILL move as soon as they think nothing is looking....they don't just lay in one spot and stay put no matter what. At my parents' house last year there was a young fawn next to a tree....my dog was sniffing at her and we went out to take photos of her....then we went inside. 5 minutes later she was GONE....no where to be seen. If something disturbs them, they WILL move....and to them the road is noplace special so why would they avoid it? If you just shoo them off the road a ways they are more likely to be safe than if you try to "rescue" them (unless of course their mother is roadkill nearby or they are emaciated). Once disturbed in one location they probably won't go back to it.
