Will a 100 watt Bulb

We have a really long homemade incubator and use two bulbs, a 40w and a 60w, one on each end. We liked the idea of heat coming from each end. Two 40w's were too little and two 60w's were too hot. We regulate our incubator temp by a series of holes in the lid over the light bulbs. If it is getting too hot we open a few holes (usually over the 60w end) and if it is too cold they are closed up.

Last night I had some pips. The temp had been holding good in my homemade incubator. When I went out to check the incubator early this morning the temperature was 93 and a chick had hatched... Pics on post #10. I really was surprised... I had taken some chicks out that had hatched before I went to bed and had turned the bulb up to bring the temp back up. I have a mark on the dimmer switch for the spot where the temp will be good at. After a little while I went back out where I keep the incubators and I turned down the dimmer switch but apparently I went too far. I have more pips too. I put the switch back to the mark this morning.

Yay for pips!!

I am just dying to get back from our Florida trip so I can start the incubator and muscovy eggs. I'm working and saving as many pennies as I can to get a huge area fenced off for when they start free-ranging.

Building this incubator means i can buy real heritage chickens too!!
