my yard is set up similar to yours, with a slope running away from the house and my lawn area backing up to the woods.
we built the coop/run in the furthest corner from the house. it’s about 100 yards from the back door and we can still hear the chickens. i wouldn’t want it any closer.
we utilized the wooded area behind the coop to create a hybrid run/free range setup.
my coop/run is predator proof with 3ft of hardware cloth buried all around the coop and all openings sealed up with HC.
i then fenced in a ~50x50 wooded area directly behind the coop and run with black chain link fence. when we’re home and the weather is nice, we let the chickens “free range” in their large pen
black chain link fence is nice because it all but disappears among the trees. you can’t even tell it’s there from the patio. i’m not a fan of eyesores in the yard.
the predator proof run allows me to leave the house or go on vacation with a clear conscience. i leave the pop door open, they have enough room in their run, and nothing can get in.
then, by simply opening a door, they have access to 2500sq ft of forest floor.
you can very easily create a similar setup with the way your yard is situated.
