What a great story!!! I never would have thought a chick with a shell that messed up could make it so long and hatch out just fine! I'll remember that tape trick!
Well its almost 2 in the morning and we just got home. Got stuck on Donner Pass,it was a blizzard so it took an extra 5 hours to get home. Baby Cupid is fine, but was shocked to see that one of his siblings squeezed through a crack in the nest box and was locked away from mama for who knows how long. He is cold and stiff, and barely moving, but still alive. At this point I am delirious from lack of sleep-didnt get much this morning. Im trying to warm baby up in the bator. He keeps doing this weird gasping movement and arching his neck back. Its awful to watch. I dont know what to do. I need another miracle.Ive never culled before and dont want to start in the condition Im in. I will try to warm him up and make the call.
All I can say is that God really loves Chickens, or they are incredibly resilient(or both). In the last 30 minutes, he went from stiff and from what I could tell, not breathing. Now he is visibly breathing pretty well and kicking his legs, but still laying on his side. Can you bring a chick back from almost freezing? I will give him some warm water mixed with Vi-tal if he gets to his feet. My son took pics of him in the bator,If they are good quality I will post em tomorrow. zzzzzzzzzz......
