Will a female and male ever seperate for a little while?

Of two mates, would it ever happen that the female flies away for a day to check something out. not with her mate? Would they ever not be together for a while? Canada geese

We have a pair of Canada geese that hang around in our river, only time I don't see them together is when she is nesting but gander is always not far away. I guess there are times when any couple needs a break from each other though. Do they have goslings? if so I doubt the mother would fly off but something may have happened to her. Did she come back?

no, she is missing. They did not have goslings (their 6 goslings were stolen 2 days after hatch by another pair that now has 12 goslings)

I am wondering if a predator may have gotten her. When the pair that nest on an island in our river lost all their eggs because of flooding they stayed together and around here for probably a week before they both took off.
