Will a roo breed an immature hen/pullet?

In my experience with my roo, he tried but the hens ran.......

My older experienced Roo has never tried to mount a young hen, however, I have a couple roos just maturing now and I have had to put them in the "cockpit" (a temp. pen) because they were running around, grabbing whatever they could, and being extremely rough about it! I even caught one on another roo........eeeewwwww.

A mature rooster will generally ignore an unready pullet. A cockerel just beginning to feel his oats often will not. I typically prefer to separate the girls and the boys about that time. In a free-range situation where the girls can get away it may not be necessary.

.....Alan.

Thanks. My roo is experienced. I have a young (his daughter that was hatched last September) Fawn Duckwing Bantam and was wondering. I also have her mother and saw my roo breed her this morning. I'm wondering if she is ready to lay again?
