Hi all,
I just joined BYC and I have a few questions. I have ordered 3 welsh harlequin ducklings for March 16
and am hoping to get at least one female out of this bunch. My question is, if I purchase a pair of mature call ducks would the single female duckling grow up to be friends with them, or is this too much of a size difference for them to keep each other company? Or would the pair be bonded to each other and not accept the duck?

-Thanks!

I've had calls and standards together and they've done great. Duck introductions are usually simpler than chickens. Besides the occasional territorial drake, their attitudes are usually the more the merrier, especially with the girls. And a drake would most likely not object to another girlfriend. I had a pair of Snowy calls and two Pekin hens. That poor call drake would try to "love" on the Pekins and, well, he got on top, but that was about it. He'd hang on for dear life, but wouldn't get anywhere, unfortunately. So yes, I think they'd get along just fine.

Oh, and :welcome!

I have one more question: I am going to keep my ducks in with a few chickens. Are two female ducks enough to keep a call drake busy so he doesn't go after the chicken hens?

Separate them is the best advise..Call Drakes are Randy little guys so might rape the Chickens too?..He has a Penis so can kill Chickens...

Would 2 females be incredibly loud? It wouldn't be to much of a problem, but if it is absolutely ear-piercing that might be an issue. We live in town but we are right next to a major road that is probably louder than some ducks...

No..Not actually that bad and they quiet down with age too..They get yappy at feeding time or excitement gets them going..
