(1) Are you new to chickens? Yes

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? None at the moment we are looking into everything we need to build
Coop and raising them.

(3) What breeds do you have? None. Any suggestions on best type to have?

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I love watching them, eggs as a food source.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Gardening, boating.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I’m married to a wonderful supportive hubs with me wanting chickens. We have 2 grown children and I have 2 fur babies. I’ve worked from home with my company since 2005 so I’m hoping to retired in about 4 yrs.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I took an agricultural class in my area and the instructor spoke highly about your website.
 
Welcome to BYC! Your location has a lot to do with breed recommendations. Some chickens do ok in the heat, some do not. Same with very cold climates.
Also take in to consideration your goals. Consider these questions:
1. Do you want lap chickens?
2. Is free ranging important to you, or will they be confined to a run?
3. Do you want dual purpose chickens or just layers?
4. Do you want your hens to hatch and raise chicks?
