Will chicks hatched in May start laying before winter?

My first batch, hatched 4/21/18, I have seen to this point 2 different blue pullet eggs. Looking at the girls I think I know which 2 it is, and several others are looking over nests,,, and the last 2 days a pink egg with not much shell,, girl go eat some of that oyster shell!!

I have NH reds, born May 16th and got my first egg the other day (october 24th). So one, Gretchen, started at just over 21 weeks. Her sis, Hildagard, show no signs of laying. No squatting, box curiosity etc.
Obviously its possible for chicks born late spring/early summer to lay before the next spring.

I’m interested to hear when they do start laying. I have three older girls born May 4th and none have started yet..DB, BO, and SS...anticipation is killing me...hahaa
Haha I know exactly what you mean! This waiting game is BRUTAL. One of my girls was hatched the same day as yours -- May the Fourth be With You! :lau

I do realize that all chickens have their own timeline... but I just didn't have to suffer through this much anticipation the first time around, I was so lucky!! These new pullets were born 2 weeks later in the year, so trying to use logic, I was hoping for eggs just 2 weeks later in the year also. Boy, was I mistaken!
I'll definitely post pictures of those first little pullet eggs when they arrive... someday :pop

Well done! there is still hope for my May babies then!
I have 12 RIR that were hatched May 8 and it was a trickle. First egg Oct 4th and now all 12 are laying. I'm terrible at the butt check (first flock) so the full 12 wasn't confirmed til I got 12 eggs in one day :)

And I now have at least two that are laying large eggs every day :) And get a double yolk about once a week +/- and they've been quite large (one was almost 3 oz!). Before I changed their diet I was getting all tiny eggs biggest 1.6 oz. Now all but two or three are 1.7 oz and up. Guess upping the protein to flock raiser with OS mixed in did the trick!

Note- I do have supplemental lighting in my coop on 14 hours a day. My husband said no more store-bought eggs once they started laying, and after tasting home-raised eggs, I have to agree with him!
