Will chicks hatched in May start laying before winter?

Wow I haven't checked this thread in a while!!
I’m interested to hear when they do start laying.
Finally got some eggs!!!!!!!!
I forgot to post my first one from Muffin (Buff Orp at 30 weeks old) laid on December 3

Then Cookie (EE) laid her first egg January 21 at 37 weeks old!
I have waited almost 3 years for a green egg!! My first EE Jewel, only laid pale brown eggs- disappointing. I may just blow out the contents of this one and keep it forever... it's that special to me!

Well done! there is still hope for my May babies then!
When did yours start laying? Or did they? I still have one, my Blue Wyandotte, that hasn't laid any yet... she is a true freeloader!

I have 12 RIR that were hatched May 8 and it was a trickle. First egg Oct 4th and now all 12 are laying. I'm terrible at the butt check (first flock) so the full 12 wasn't confirmed til I got 12 eggs in one day :)

And I now have at least two that are laying large eggs every day :) And get a double yolk about once a week +/- and they've been quite large (one was almost 3 oz!). Before I changed their diet I was getting all tiny eggs biggest 1.6 oz. Now all but two or three are 1.7 oz and up. Guess upping the protein to flock raiser with OS mixed in did the trick!

Note- I do have supplemental lighting in my coop on 14 hours a day. My husband said no more store-bought eggs once they started laying, and after tasting home-raised eggs, I have to agree with him!
You are lucky! I've been feeding the flock raiser with OS as well. I guess maybe the lighting is a factor? I just had heard somewhere that supplemental light had no effect on first year pullets and believed it. My first flock laid just fine starting in August and all through winter.

So pleased for you - they are lovely!

I've got quite a few pullets so I'm not 100% sure on who is who but since about 2nd week of January (2 weekish past sostice) I started getting new eggs - both Marans are laying - wow they are gorgeous eggs! I think yesterday may have even seen 2 new layers as there was gorgeous little pullet eggs x2 in there! My Araucana started laying in early December, laid about 6 eggs then stopped for the winter - she has started up again now too!

Wow that's great! I would love to have some Marans... or maybe even one of every kind of chicken! But I'd really love those dark chocolate eggs and even some blue. Your Araucana seems to have just taken a very short break so that's good. I don't expect my oldest hen to start laying again til March, that's when she started back up last year.

Thank you for sharing. New eggs are so exciting!
