Will ducks fly away if they are free ranged.?

Yes they will but if you clip there wings when they are young meaning having all their brown feathers they will never fly. My duck mallard duck flew away this morning because we did not clip her wings

but usually if you have food they will come back and because her drake is there.. :)

We have mallards - 2 hens and a drake. One if the hens has gone broody and is sitting on at least 4 eggs but maybe more since I last checked a couple days ago. I'm so excited that we will soon have babies;but brand new at this so need to find out how long this process takes. She's being a great sitter.Anyone want to give me advice or suggestions?? All welcomed.

Hell- I have ten 1 week old Muscovy babies and they are as cute as can be. We have a weekend house that we go to on the weekends to relax and unwind and get out of town. (Its about 1.5 hours from where we live). We have a fishing hole out there that the grandkids love to fish but lately the moss and algae and cat tails have taken over. I was curious if I could take a few ducks down there to eat the water plants and forage. We are in the Texas panhandle so there is no shortage of insects for them to hunt. My biggest concern with them being out there is not being able to pin them up at night and them wondering off because they are not getting fed regularly. (which, we were thinking about adding a few feeders that may hold them over for a while. we already have deer feeders down there but not many deer.) Should I clip the wing? Will they stay if I dont? Also, if I do clip their wing, would they still be able to get to their roost (think of a platform bed with a roof over it about 5 feet off the ground)

Any advice would be helpful!
oh and also, at what age would you be comfortable taking them down there? I would just really love for them to be there when we go, and watch them in the pond!

What breed do you have? not many domestic breeds can fly.

Im not OP but I believe I have a black runner and a blue runner. They are pretty large, and do not seem interested in flying, but they aren't my biggest fan yet either. I would love to leave them in my yard fenced in without a top. What is the recommended age to clip, if this is even a breed worth clipping? They're only 3 months right now.

Nope unless you had a yard with a hill there is no way they could get over the fence. Unless you fence is 2'and under One of mine went over our 4'fence with barbwire around the top but she was up on the hill behind our house. I am still amazed she did it. That was when she was around 4 months old she is over a year and has never done it again.

Alright perfect. I might save myself the trouble and just build a standard height fence for them in the yard so the neighbor dogs and cats cant get to them (my ducks are bigger than cats at only 4 months so im not worried much). Thank you :D I haven't taken a recent pic or id show you my fluffies
