will eggs get bigger as hens get older?

They will get bigger. Some of my birds have been laying for 3 months and most of the eggs now are medium and large. I have a couple of birds that are laying x-large and jumbo. They are ISA Browns. My older RIRs lay large and x-large eggs. They are about 2½ yrs old. I weigh all of my eggs.

Only 3 out of 5 chickens are laying. My Rhode Island Red and Ameracauna took about 2 months for their eggs to get bigger. My silver laced wyndotte still lays medium size eggs after 2 months of laying.

Personally I like to see some of the older threads brought back to life. There is a lot of good information already on them. I see you recently joined us and want to say

Gary, that egg scale is amazing! I'm going to have to get one.

On that topic, I sort of wish more people had mentioned their eggs weights in this thread... it's so hard to judge the size.

My 15 hens just started laying on Valentines Day. Currently their eggs are between 33 and 38 grams, so we've still got a ways to go before they're even considered "Small". I plan to sell my excess informally to friends and neighbors, but don't have a clue how to price them at this size.

Anyway, anybody want to speculate on how much the eggs are likely to grow this year? Will I be eating "peewee" eggs all year, or will they at least get up to Small (43 grams) or Medium (50 grams)?

My RIR's started laying one month ago... The eggs have been gradually getting bigger... Twice now one of my girls has laid a HUGE egg... She also is the only one who's missed an couple days so far... Looks like she is making it up to me!!!

YES, eggs should get bigger with time & my SLW did that & now I cant hardly tell their eggs from our BR & NHR, & they are all one year old , so yes eggs get bigger with time so no worries, just make sure you feed them a good quality feed..!!!
