Will feathers grow and how can I give them a boost?!

Read the ingredient label. The chick crumbs are probably about 18% protein as opposed to 16-17% for layer and not what I would consider a substantial protein boost for rapid feather growth.

The chick crumbs that I use have more protein than that, like around 20-22% protein. It isn't that much more than the 16-18% protein in layer feed, but it is still something more.

IMO everyone should read the ingredient labels and know what percent of protein they're feeding.
As you said your protein is higher. I've had anything from 18% to 27% on grower and anything from 16-20 for layer.
Just because something says it's grower or layer doesn't mean it's the same as any other grower or layer.
The source of protein is important too. Most are soy. Some of what I get is pork and fish meal. I like that better.
