we got a roo the other day and he seems really skittish to us but he still has yet to be with the girls completely. When he was near them, he didn’t take a liking to them and kinda hid behind the feeder. He is a bit bigger then them though. Any chance it could be the breed?

How old are they? My guess is that he is still an immature cockerel and needs to grow up some more. It's not abut size, it's about maturity and the spirit and personality of the chickens involved.

Breed is a manmade thing. Chickens do not see breed, they see chickens. Give them time. Once they become a single integrated flock with him as flock master they will breed.

Some breeds of chickens are more nervous of new things, while some others settle in quite quickly. So yes, his breed could have something to do with the way he's acting.

He will probably be fine once he's gotten used to being there. And then he'll probably start mating with the hens, so they will lay fertile eggs, and then you can incubate the eggs to get chicks.
