Wondering if egg production tends to drop temporarily when a rooster begins to get his groove on? Do the girls instinctively know it's normal, and deal well with it? Seems kind of harsh as he figures out what he's supposed to be doing. Sometimes it's just a matter of grasping a hold of the feathers behind their necks and trying to get up on them as they do everything they can to get away. Others he seems to hold on long enough for them to eventually submit so he can get up there. And he's a BIG bird...
Also, I haven't seen it yet, but does he instinctively know when the younger ones aren't ready? Or is it just a hen is a hen is a hen....my younger ones are not laying, around 15 or 16 weeks old...
