Will I survive raising my 3 year old? Pics included

LOL! I have three boys and have many such pictures like that, esp. with my first two who were extra mischievous.

When my oldest was 18 months old, we were bottlefeeding an orphaned calf. I had just brought a 50 lb. bag of calf formula into the kitchen (made a couple bottles out of it and was storing it in my pantry for convenience) and when I went outside for a minute to bring out the trash my son knocked the entire bag over, and thought it was fun to slip & slide in the powder across our kitchen floor (he was in his footed pajamas).

My second son was worse. One morning when he was almost 2 I set my alarm clock extra early to shower before they awoke, and when I got out of the shower he had woken up & tried to start breakfast. 1/2 gallon of milk spilled on my living room carpet & 6 eggs broken onto the sofa. It was a horrible mess to clean up.

I would worry about him getting into things at night while you are sleeping, though. Can you put a baby monitor on loud in your room and bells on his door so you know if he gets up and out?

I was thinking the same thing. Training potty so he won't wet the bed and a gate so he can't run around the house at night unsupervised.

Lol it is a cute picture though, he must be a tike!

OK, I love the picture!! My former 3 yr old is now 5 yrs old--he's up to different tricks now. Sometimes he gets up early before anyone else and helps himself to his own special breakfasts: marshmallow sandwiches, Hersheys syrup, whatever strikes his fancy. if it's sweet he'll find it. When he was three he spent a couple of weeks getting up and eating jelly out of the jar with a spoon which he shared with the dog. It took us awhile to figure that one out--usually a jar would last a month or more. And the dog literally had purple poop but didn't seem sick. Sure it'a a big joke now!!!

Dont know if its been metioned yet, but i'd get those window alarms from walmart or home depot (they are cheap). Only insted of putting them on the windows..stick them on the outside of his bedroom door. You'll hear him for sure if he gets out of his room with those things! Good Luck! You have a smart little guy there!

You need to deal with this, somehow. I sleep through everything, but hubby was a light sleeper, and I did not have a child who got into stuff at night; I was fortunate. Raising a child means sleep deprivation for most of us, to one degree or another, as it did for me, at times.

I am a bit horrified by the tales of these antics during the night. An adult needs to be monitoring, period -- somehow. Baby monitor, motion detector, whatever you have to do. We are looking at fire and poisoning here, at the least. And child endangerment, frankly. A kid playing with trucks in flour is cute, perhaps -- but is also not acceptable child care. Sorry.

I think our kids are related, except it was my daughter who was the troublemaker! She decided to 'make cookies' one night, I woke up around 4 to nurse her brother and found her banging around in the kitchen with flour, sugar, water, butter, and of course my PASTE food coloring all over the place. On top of all that she added water to all of this and had both utensil drawers open; so everything was a huge mess!!!! Stuff all over my clean dishes in the dryer and all over the floor..... my hubby was so good about it too. He just told me to go back to bed and we would deal with the entire mess in the morning. Good thing we did too, that way I was calmed down enough to get the camera!!!

She would also escape from our apartment, and we used every type of child proofing doorknob cover we could find; as soon as we found a design that would keep her in, she would work on the problem until she figured out how the get the door open. We ended up putting a hook and eye at the top of the outside of her room just to keep our sanity and so we could sleep! She is almost 14 now, and is still keeping us on our toes....

I would suggest not giving him anything to drink after a certain time, like an hour and a half before bedtime so he can go to the bathroom before he goes to bed and that is the end of it for the night. That way you do not have to worry about the middle of the night bathroom trips. I do like the ideas of door and window alarms, but he might think it is funny to get his parents out of bed with the alarm and just keep doing it!!!

Good luck, we have been there and made it through to the teenage years!!!! Now all I worry about is our DD driving!

I can assure you that all of the sharp objects, poisons, and whatnot's are locked away, the only two cupboard with out a lock is the one with my cans (and flour) and my pots and pans drawer. I think that your accusation of "child endangerment" is a bit extreme

. And we have since put a hook and eye latch on the top of his door. In my opinion it was a little boy doing what , as in many of these posts, little ones do.

I just have to say, threads like this are an amazing form of birth control.
