Will it harm my Chickens if I give them layer feed when they're not laying yet.

We're running out of feed and we were wondering if we should get the layer feed yet even though they're not laying yet. They are, as of today, exactly 5 months old

If they are close to laying, you can start them on it. Layer feed has the additional calcium in it which isn't good if they aren't laying yet. Are their combs getting red? And they singing the egg song/clucking around like they are going to lay? I think if its a matter of weeks before they lay, you should be safe. IMHO

Every morning they're super loud and they're combs are getting really red so should we move on to layer feed

Won't hurt them a bit. I feed layer ration to chicks and have done so for years now. Feed away!
