Will It Make It?

He is actually doing better once i rubbed his neck and massaged it! He can actually stand and run around. Thanks for posting! Cause if you didn't he might have been culled. Thanks again! Hoping mine is a hen!

Wonderful news!! Congrats! I had one born with his legs stretched out behind him--couldn't move except to roll around the incubator helplessly flailing his useless legs. I thought I was going to have to cull him, but thanks to the help of the wonderful folks on this board and hours of physical therapy, he is now running around with the other ducklings, *almost* as good as normal (he's a little wobbly still).

Just make sure you mark him somehow so that you never breed from him--if he makes a full recovery, you still don't want to pass on genes that might lead to more babies that need that kind of intensive care upon hatching.

Good luck!

So glad it worked for you. I'm a sucker for chicks and will give every one of them a chance.I was advised to cull Popeye but he wanted to live he just needed a little help.
We are very much into natural health so a massage just seemed like a posibility-he was very big for his egg and very squashed in there...if we get bent wrong muscles hurt and stretch so why wouldn't a chicken?
I agree may not be the best idea to use it to breed unless you know why it happened..With my guy we know it was a bator issue-I'm surprised any chicks in that bunch lived but he's destined to be the little Popeye mascot here. I have enough JG breeders without him.

Another baby chick in the World...I'm hatching as I type as well.

I probably will not be breeding with it. If it is a female it will be used as a layer and if it is a male we will try to sell and if we can't then we will use it as a meat bird this winter along with some other roo's. I was looking at him closely and it seems like he is walking on 2 two toes. with the third one on the far left on his left foot is bent under the middle toe. I am going to make a little "cast" for him tonight. Probably a piece of thick paper or thin cardboard and put his foot on it all straight and put a peice of tape over it so it will stay that way. Does this sound like the best way to fix it?
