One of my Old English Bantam hen just layed an egg today!!! [I'm so happy!!!] But She's only 16 weeks and five days old today! And so is the male. My question is, Is it normal for her to start laying that early and will they eggs be fertile. I've seen my Rooster, trying to mate with the two hens I have... but never seen him get the job done. So will they be fertile???

Also, in case you didn't know, the actual act only lasts SECONDS. The first few times I saw my rooster mate pullets, I thought, Poor fella - that can't be very effective!

But wham, bam, thank you, ma'am IS the way it's done.

You stated that so correctly I seriously thought she had hit him or something the first time weird..... I agree crack it open alot of the time first eggs are fluke eggs.
