Will my little hand held flashlight work for candling?

Hi, I use a little LED flashlight, and some cheap "foam pipe insulation".. You only need a couple inches of it... but even the 6 foot lengths are less than $3 each at Home Depot. Comes in different internal diameters, I think this one is 3/4".

Just cut off a piece & stick flashlight into it; it directs the light beam, plus cushions the egg from bumping into the hard edges of the flashlight:

I have been using a mag light - it's what we have. I just cup my hand around the egg/flashlight and could see the veins quite easily through a duck egg.
 
I use an old slide projector, works well. But when that bulb burns out, I'll go to an LED.
