Will NOT be buying TSC feeds again

since i started reading and posting on this thread i have been paying attention to the poop of the chickens, i started using blue seal on sat and nutrina (?spelling) mixed together. i have used them before but i think i have used dumour more often than the others and i am noticing the poops seem to be more runny right now. the only reason i didn't go to TSC is because of price i have never had an issue with that feed, chicks and chickens and my goats have all done good on it. and really my goats wont eat for days at a time if i get something different.

Wow - I was surprised to read this! I used to buy my feed from the local feedstore but I switched to TSC because it was cheaper - anywhere from $5-$8 per 50 lb bag, depending on which protein percentage I bought. The 16% layer at TSC is $11 something and at the feed store, it was $16 something. The 24% that I feed the quail is $13 something at TSC. The feedstore doesn't carry anything higher than 20% and that was almost $20/50 lbs! They also (feedstore) don't carry the 15% grower/finisher so now I just make one stop to TSC for all 3 and can be out of there for around $50.

I have no major complaints on the quality of TSC feeds, it is purely the price. The are relatively new here, and I am glad they came to town. But a big mistake they made was to come in with low ball prices, and the two local feed stores met the prices. Within 2 weeks TSC raised the prices dramatically and did a favor to the local feed stores. Starter/Grower went from $12 to $15, Scratch grains from $7 to $8. And then they refused to help my wife load a 200# order. They carry more items than a feed store, but in at least this town they will not replace them.

They also need to train their employees on customer service too. When chicks were in, my wife was looking at them in the troughs. And the girl informed my wife bluntly that she must buy six. At which point she was informed we would not be buying any at all. Most of the employees are polite but usually do not know where anything is if asked, and most times have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. This is not so much employees fault as it is a trend in large retail companies to cut costs on training and pay poorly. Seems that was Winn Dixie's strategy too.

Here in Ohio it's a state law that poultry has to be sold in a minimum quantity of 6. Might be the rule in many states.

I do agree that the salespeople aren't always very knowledgeable though which is why I wish my feedstore would drop their prices. They try to make it up to me buy throwing in ripped bags of other items for free - which is very appreciated - but I never seem to walk out of there (feedstore) without spending any less than $70-$80. I've noticed no difference in the quality; to me it's all about the price.

LilRalphieRoosmama here are my prices TSC layer pellet 11.99 feed store 14.99 country max 9.85
cracked corn TSC 14.99 country max 8.20 can' t find receipt for feed store. i thought TSC was also 14.99 for layer pellets i was wrong.

Interesting to see how wide a variation there is on prices. I paid $12 for my first bag of chick starter. This bag I bought from TSC was $15. Both were 50lbs but the crumbles were way different in size. My Burkmanns feed was much finer and made a great mash, I would think it would be perfect for bantams also. TScs is much corser and makes a OK mash but it does have a differnt smell to it I do not care for and it takes a bit to absorb water to make mash.

I think I would like to try the Purina and just add a meat product to it to make it more complete. I have like there top grade cat and dog feeds but not the low grade feeds. I used to live right where there plant was in PA had friends that have worked in it. That was a few years back.

I checked into Blue Seal,Kent and Southern State all are out of state for me by 40 to 80 miles. Blue Seal would not be bad but I have done that drive and it is longer than they have posted.

Hi all, when you say Purina...are you referring to the Layena line? if so, I have used it for a few months now and my egg production has gone down...don't know if it's a fluke or not

I love TSC but cant stand the Dumor line of feeds - not that they ever have them is stock - the last time I was there and I was looking for feed the associate told me to go to the local Agway! I have become a loyal customer to my local farm which has a feed/supply store. They carry Poulin and Blue Seal feeds. My chickens all have been very happy with the Poulin feed - the best part is it cost no more than the cheap feeds at the big box stores!

That makes me and my chickens happy!
