Whoa, 36% is a supplement - definitely not a feed. Wow. I'd go with the 17 and you can use the supplement (which should contain some soy or meat products, probably fish meal?) to bulk up protein if you want.
Personally I'd use the 17% and separate offer oyster shell/granite grit mixed in a seperate container.
If you're raising chicks, I wouldn't use either feed they offer. Period. I'd use the Purina (starter, then starter/grower or grower) until you get them to four months - then go to the mill food with a transition period. There's something to be said for your birds looking great. I'd put that over waste.
On the game bird, I used a game bird starter for my chicks this year and I really liked it. Then again, I am very very experienced at spotting and treating (or using probiotics for) coccidiosis before it gets past the first few droppings. But I found that their feathering was absolutely beautiful, their bodies were lovely, and because it was starter it still had the right balances for growth of the body/organ development. I'm looking into their growth formula. I did used to use some of their breeder/layer when I had show chickens who weren't breeding well otherwise. These were the complete feeds. I used gamecock (and a vitamin package) for my show cockerels. This year I'm likely to do something a little differently.
