Will NOT be buying TSC feeds again

It sound to me like you suppliers are having storing issues. They must not be storing in a low humidity place and feed is sitting around way too long. Maybe not alot of chicken people in your area.

Our Burkmanns supplier is good. They must sell alot of feed around here. One they are the cheapest in town. Two it is very fresh at least the bag of chick starter I bought. When I fed the starter I had no smelly poops and they were also much smaller than when I fed the TSC feed. I know some do not like them. I have had reports from one or two there chickens did better on purina. The thing about changing feeds you can not just go by one bag to see results unless you are just judging poops or if they like it or not.

You are saying Burkmanns layer is 20%protien? Did I read that right. If so then I have found my base feed. Will talk to my supplier tomorrow to make sure. I could not find anything on the web site.

I have been so busy most of my information is comming off websites than talking in person. The ones I have check in person on all carry 15 to 16% layer unless it is purina. That was 4 of our feed stores.

Our so called farmers around here I would call ranchers. They either have cattle or just hay their field which is just local grass hay. No one plants hay or grain around here unless they raise pigs. I have seen 3 places growing corn and one wheat and soy that is it and they were not local but in two different counties. Everyone that sells at the farmers market has small places like a few acres like us. We have a few dairy folks but most it is beef cattle.

Just about 100 lbs of "organic" feed - Organic is great but, not an absolute necessity for us. I think I would rather buy local if given the choice. Anyway, got the feed and started using it on 6/22. We have 20 standard/heavy breeds and 9 banties. I'll try to post when it is gone. They do free range but only for about 2-3 hrs a day.

Any ideas on other feed/chicken ratios?

Thats all I use Purina. Using the gamebird still has fish meal in it so its not all soy protein. Also free range them and add seeds, extra wheat and DE to the scratch grains.

This is completely off topic but Purina chicken food has Fish meal into? Does there dog food? My dog started smelling like fish after he ate Purina so I switched foods.

It probably does contain fish meal. Why do people think it is so good for their chickens. It is not something they would eat on their own. Alot fish also absorb bad chemicals in the water. I have talked to a few breeders that will not feed fish meal because it has caused problems. Some it does not effect. i do not want to take the chance on fishy smell. ewww

You should post this as another thread as we are not talking about feed cost ratios. I am not sure how many have done it and alot depends on breed and enviromental conditions.
