a while back our only pullet who has ever laid any eggs for us got a bit broody and had a hidden nest under our shed. When she finally came out to eat, we kept her for quite a few days in the enclosed coop and pen so she couldn't get out and closed around the shed so she couldn't get back under there. She squeezed into a tiny little opening. LOL So.... It's been a couple of weeks since she has been out of jail and free ranging with the other girls. I am pretty sure that she hasn't started laying again. I'm frustrated. My girls are 11 months old and in the almost 4 months that I've had them, they never have established laying regularly. My husband made a new nest box for them hoping that would help but.... nothing. Also, Her face and comb got really red when she was laying a few eggs and color seems to be fading now. Is it like a hormonal thing where that redness comes and goes?? The others sometime seem a bit redder, but nothing's happening.
It's a good thing that they are sweet, pretty and funny, because they definitely are NOT earning their keep!
