Will she lay soon?

She’s 20 weeks, she’s a Buff Rock, and to me, her comb looks like she’s getting ready! I’ve never had chickens before so I am VERY excited for my first ever egg. We’re in Colorado so lots of daylight still! What do you more experienced chicken owners think?!

The comb does redden up considerably just before a pullet is ready to lay the first egg. But that's not the only way to tell how close the first egg is.

Get her on you lap facing you. Reach around her to her vent and locate the two bony knobs on each side of it. See if you can fit two fingers side by side between them. If they both fit, the first egg is on the way!
