Ok so I bought a chick and duckling a few weeks ago and they are the best of friends. My concern is that the duckling is growing and the chick isnt at the same rate, they both are growing nicely but the duckling has the upper hand. The chick is now 1/4 the size of the duckling, now at this rate will I have to split the two up or will the duckling grow too big and cause a problem with his friend. They are bestfriends now and doing good so far.

I think they will be fine. I wouldn't seperate them.

I have 4 pekin ducks...2 are 4 weeks old and live with 2 cornish x hens, the other 2 are only 1 1/2 weeks and live with 1 week old silkie and some other chick. The ducklings are 3 times bigger than the chicks, but get along very well. They cry when they are separated. They will run around desperately trying to find each other...The chicks, I believe, think they are ducks...If the ducklings walk to the water, they follow. If the ducklings get food, they follow. It is a funny sight. I am just hoping when they get older, and the ducklings go to the pond themselves, I don't find some chickens trying to swim.

Anyway, let them enjoy each others company.

I be they will!

I raised a chick and a baby bunny together and they probably would still be best buds if I hadn't of separated them!

Its funny beacuse the duckling follows the chick around and its a small silkie, but ok I was just wondering about it.I will have to put off putting the duckling outside then because the chick.Man is the duckling messy, and the fact that they are in my room doesnt help.

That sounds so cute. Can you take pictures of your dynamic duo? I am gonna try and get pictures of mine.

They were just moved to the coop last night (I live in South Florida). The smell was affecting my asthma. So we put a light out in the coop. Things went very well. The ducks and chicks are all great, quacking, chirping.

I don't know what the weather is like there, but maybe, if you can run a heat light out to wherever you are putting them, you can get them out of the house.

I was wondering the same thing. I have a 3-4 week old BR chick in with my 2 week old Blue Swedish duck, and they are best friends. Glad to know I can keep them together.

I believe that little baby birds don't really get how big\\small they are in relation to others. As long as they think they're in the same flock, they will be friends regardless of the ducks funny looking beak.

I have two pekin ducks one's a male, the other a female, they look like a couple, but I have a Mallard duck(She flew in and made our farm home)for a couple years also. They are all great friends with each other and my chickens(RIR,four jersey giantsXAmeracauna,Two Domoniques).
