Will the government take away your chickens?

So you think we should get old and sick and disabled people and get them to work? Most people on welfare are over 65. When you see stats on welfare spending, numbers on it, etc. they include medicare as welfare.

So are you saying you want a socialist govt. ?

Socialists hold that capitalism is an illegitimate economic system, since it largely serves the interests of the owners of capital and involves the exploitation of other economic classes. As such, they wish to replace it completely or at least make substantial modifications to it, in order to create a more just society that would guarantee a certain basic standard of living.[13][14] A primary goal of socialism is social equality and a distribution of wealth based on one's contribution to society, and an economic arrangement that would serve the interests of society as a whole.[

Well funny you ask lets take Detroit the epitomy of the welfare state, where people are still dying in the streets from murder. The highest concetration of welfare recipients tend to have the highest crime rates usually.

I am of the opinion that those that can work should do something for the free food and I mean anything that does not project the idea that you are getting something for nothing and for those that choose that life when a better life is possible is not the burden of society.

Lets not confuse the truly needy here with the ones that are generational welfare recipients. There is a place for welfare but it needs better management and accountability.

If the aged, infermed and disabled are not the actual needy, than who is? Most who are on welfare are seniors. When you talk about reducing spending for welfare or eliminating it, you are talking about taking welfare from seniors who are the largest numbers receiving public assistance, followed by mothers with small children. So children should go hungry and without medical care? Oh I know that you are going to come back with some story about knowing people who have "played the system", but let me tell you I have personally known many people that desprately needed foodstamps or housing assistance to survive. I have known people who have lost everything due to paying for serious illnesses. When I was a child, I had friends that lived in abject poverty in housing not fit for a dog... they had mothers that worked, it wasn't enough. I personally grew up in poverty and I know what its like to go without and have nothing. It would have been better for me if we had gotten public assistance, I sure as heck would not have some serious medical problems I live with to this day due to inability to get preventative care when I was a child for some things (we couldn't afford it). I don't begrudge kids some foodstamps or help paying for their doctor or dental... Yeah, some people abuse it, but the truth is a lot of people really need it. Like I said, if you really think its so bad, get out there and work to have it fixed, but these blanket solutions like getting rid of it, etc. are no way to solve this.

Welfare is free cash to people that do not fit in to the SS an SSI system. Medicare is part of the SS system.

Welfare and SSI and foodstamps and public housing are all related to each other. When "welfare" costs are counted, they include SSI, SS, foodstamps, housing, etc. And things like foodstamps and housing assistance are given to as many recipients of SSI and SS as they are to people who are not in SSI or SS. When politicians talk about welfare, they generally use statistics that include the costs of SSi and SS to make it seem like we have massive amounts of welfare moms, when in fact we have large numbers of "welfare seniors" (not to mention the disabled).

Where did you get the idea that I want a socialist gov't. I only want that in the same way that our gov't provides education, highways, law enforcement, military, etc. I guess you want to see grandma and those dying or suffering from disabilities to live on the streets. "Too bad for them, but no way I want to live in a socialist goverment!"

Whats your solution to the welfare of the elderly or infermed or disabled? I don;t think you have one.
